Online Escape Room Tips & Strategy
A practical guide to escaping faster: search every object first, write the cipher down, work the drawer, safe, and door in order, and save the hint button for a true dead end.

Information first, codes later
Every strong escape-room habit comes down to one idea: gather every clue before you enter a single code. The room always has one next step, and the fastest players are the ones who never enter a code they have not fully earned.
- 01
Search before you solve
Open all six objects once before you touch a lock. You cannot plan a route through a room you have not seen, and the painting note only makes sense after you have looked at the shelf.
- 02
Write the cipher down
Note the painting’s shift number and its read order on paper or in your head before you open the shelf. Both are easy to misremember, and a wrong order gives a wrong code from correct digits.
- 03
Count back, then wrap
The note says subtract. Take each shelf number, count back by the shift, and if you go below zero, wrap around — 1 back by 3 is 8. Then arrange the three results in the note’s order.
- 04
Take the torch straight to the rug
The UV torch has exactly one use: the marks under the rug. There is no reason to explore with it. Open the drawer, grab the torch, lift the rug, and shine it.
- 05
Work the locks in order
Drawer, then safe, then door. If a lock will not open, the clue you are missing is almost always in an object you opened but did not fully read — go back to the shelf or the rug.
- 06
Both card halves matter
The drawer’s key-card half is only two digits; the door code is four. The safe holds the other half. If the door buzzes, check you have all four digits and the brass key.
- 07
Save the hint for a real wall
The hint button always points at your current step, and a zero-hint escape is tracked as its own best. Most rooms crack without one once you have searched everything.

How the approach shifts
The habits above apply to every room. What changes is what you are optimising for — a first clean escape, a fast time, or a long hint-free streak.
Your first room
Expect five to ten minutes while you learn where everything is and how the cipher works. Do not chase par yet — just get out clean.
Chasing par
Once the structure is familiar, a sub-three-minute escape is realistic. The fastest route is: painting, shelf, drawer, rug, safe, door, with no backtracking.
Chasing a hint-free streak
Consecutive escapes build a streak, and hint-free escapes are a separate best. Slow down on the cipher, double-check the read order, and you will rarely need a hint.
