What is the online escape room
A locked room, a chain of clues, and the door
This is a single-player virtual escape room. You are shut in a study with a painting, a bookshelf, a desk drawer, a rug, a wall safe, and a bolted door. Search each object, decode the painting cipher, work the three locks in order, and open the door before par. It is quick to learn and different every time — no two rooms share a code.
- One room, three locks
- A number lock, a symbol dial, and a final door code, chained so there is always exactly one next step. No dead ends, no guesswork about what to do.
- Plays in your browser
- No download, no install, no plugins. escaperoomgame.app loads a fresh room the moment the page opens, on desktop and mobile.
- Procedural rooms
- Every room is generated from a new random seed — new cipher shift, new codes, new symbols — so the structure stays familiar while the solution is always new.
- Timer, par, and hints
- A stopwatch and a per-room par time push a faster escape. Progressive hints point at your current step without spoiling the next.
How to play
How to play the online escape room
Search the room, read every clue, use the UV torch on the rug, and work the drawer, the safe, and the door in that order. Four steps, start to escape.
- 1
Search the room
You start locked in a study. Tap or click each object — the painting, the bookshelf, the desk drawer, the rug, the wall safe, and the door — to look closer. Nothing is decoration: every object either holds a clue, holds an item, or is a lock waiting for a code.
- 2
Read the clues
Straighten the crooked painting to find a note taped to the back: a number to count back by and the order to enter digits. The bookshelf shows three tagged numbers. Together they give the three-digit code for the desk drawer.
- 3
Use what you find
The drawer holds a UV torch and half of a key card. Take the torch to the rug and shine it on the floorboards to reveal four symbols — the combination for the wall safe. The safe holds a brass key and the other half of the key card.
- 4
Open the door
The two card halves spell a four-digit code. Enter it on the door panel, turn the brass key, and step out. Your time is compared to the room’s par; a clean, hint-free escape is the goal.
Tips for a faster escape
- Open every object once before you try to solve anything — you cannot plan a route you have not seen.
- Write the painting’s shift number and read order down before you touch the shelf; it is easy to misremember.
- Work the locks in order: drawer, safe, door. If a lock will not open, the clue you need is usually one object you have not fully checked.
- The shift is a simple “count back” — subtract, and wrap 0 back to 9 if you go under.
- Take the UV torch straight to the rug. Nothing else in the room needs it, so there is no reason to wait.
- Both key-card halves matter: the drawer gives the first two digits, the safe gives the last two.
- Save the hint button for a genuine dead end — a hint-free escape is its own record, and most rooms crack without one.
FAQ
The online escape room, answered
Straight answers about the free virtual escape room you can play online in your browser.
What is this online escape room?
It is a single-player point-and-click puzzle game that runs entirely in your browser. You are locked in a study and have to search the room, find hidden clues, solve a chain of three locks — a number lock, a symbol dial, and a final door code — and open the door to escape. Every room is a fresh procedural layout with new codes.
Is the online escape room free?
Yes. escaperoomgame.app is completely free and runs in your browser. There is nothing to buy, download, or install, and no interruptive video ads, premium tiers, or paywalls. Open the page and a room is ready.
Do I need to download an app or create an account?
No. The game is the website — a 100% browser-based build with no app-store download and no sign-up. Your stats are saved locally in your browser, so there is no login to manage.
How do I play?
Tap each object to look closer. Straighten the painting for a cipher note, read the three tagged numbers on the bookshelf, count them back by the note’s number, and enter the result on the desk drawer in the note’s order. The drawer holds a UV torch — use it on the rug to reveal the safe symbols. The safe holds a brass key and the last two digits of the door code; the drawer had the first two. Enter the four-digit code on the door and step out.
Is there a time limit? Can I lose?
There is no failure state. A stopwatch counts up from the moment the room opens, and each room has a par time of roughly 2½ to 3½ minutes, but nothing bad happens if you go over. A run ends only when you open the door or start a new room.
Is every room solvable?
Yes. Unlike a shuffled card game, every generated room is guaranteed solvable. The clues always fully determine the codes, and the three locks open in a fixed order — drawer, then safe, then door — so there is always exactly one next step.
How long does a room take?
A first room usually takes five to ten minutes while you learn where everything is. Once you know the structure, a clean escape is often under three minutes, and the par time reflects that.
What kinds of puzzles are in the room?
A Caesar-style cipher on the painting note, a three-digit push-button number lock on the drawer, a UV-light reveal under the rug, a four-symbol dial on the wall safe, and a four-digit final code on the door. They are the staples of real-world escape rooms, scaled to a single room.
How do hints work?
The hint button always describes your current step and never reveals a later one. Each hint you take is counted, and an escape with zero hints is recorded as a separate hint-free best. Most rooms can be solved without a hint once you have searched everything.
What happens if I enter a wrong code?
Nothing but a short buzz. There is no attempt limit, no lockout, and no time penalty for a wrong code. You can brute-force a lock if you want to, though the clues make that unnecessary.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. The layout is built for touch: the room and its controls fit above the fold in portrait, close-ups fill the same panel, and every code can be entered with on-screen buttons. Starting a new room is instant with no page reload.
Does the game save my progress?
Rooms entered, rooms escaped, best time, fastest hint-free escape, and your current and longest streak are saved locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server and there is no account. A room in progress is not saved if you close the tab.
